Just a Flick of the Wrist

Janet Groene’s
Flicker Stew
One burner or campfire, one pot and half hour are all you need to make this backwoods stew. There is no need to brown the beef first or boil gallons of water to cook pasta. Best of all, the recipe can be varied from here to Sunday by using different shapes of pasta and different ground meats or poultry each time.

4 cups water
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 teaspoon each onion powder, garlic granules
½ teaspoon ground ginger
24-ounce package (1 1/2 pounds)  lean ground beef (90-93% lean)
1 quart tomato juice
2 ½ cups small pasta such as macaroni
2 cups thawed peas
Salt, pepper

Bring water to a boil and stir in bouillon, onion powder, garlic and ginger. Keeping water at a boil,  flick ground beef into the boiling water in tiny tufts. When all meat has been added and is no longer pink, add tomato juice and bring to a boil. Stir in pasta, reduce heat and keep at a low boil until pasta is tender. Stir in peas, adjust seasonings and serve. Serves 6 to 8.
